Here are 5 fall car care tips that are sure to keep you from unexpected costly auto repairs. Weather you do it yourself, or bring your vehicle into Citywide Auto Care in Orange for a professional service, these tips are sure to save you headache this fall:

1. Battery – Keep the battery connector clean, tight and corrosion-free. Cold weather is hard on batteries, so its wise to check your battery and charging system. Batteries don’t always give warning signs before failure, it is advisable to replace batteries that are more than three years old.

2. Heater, defroster and wiper blades – Check the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to ensure they are working properly. Fall is a great time to also inspect you air filter and cabin filter. Wiper blades that are torn, cracked or simply wiper blades that don’t clean your windshield should be replaced. As a general rule, wiper blades should be replaced every six months. When changing the blades, be sure to also check the fluids levels in the windshield reservoir.

3. Tires– Check the tire tread depth and tire pressure. Uneven wear indicated a need for wheel alignments. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots. During winter, it is advisable to check your tire pressure weekly. Tires tend to loose pressure when the temperature drops, which can lead to bad gas mileage, and an unsafe vehicle.

4. Brakes-Have the brake system checked, including the brake linings, rotors and drums. Brakes are critical in keeping you safe while on the road. Please click HERE for 7-sings that you need new brakes.

5. Fluids- its a good idea to check all your fluids including brake fluid, anti-freeze, wind shied washer fluid, and motor oil and transmission oil. As the days get shorter, and colder your vehicles driving demands change, and simple steps can keep you from costly auto repairs.
